saw a few gorgeous cookbook holders on Studio McGee’s website recently. The thing is that they didn’t quite match my style but I didn’t know what would fully match the style I'm going for in the kitchen (but I've linked them below because they are gorgeous). I wanted something a little bit different and something to tie in the black accents I have around the living room to the kitchen. A few iterations later and I arrived at this cookbook holder - a gorgeous, and simple stand that is the perfect display piece for those delicious recipes. I’m clearly on a book display kick because this would also make a great alternative to a book display I've made (linked below). Similarly, the ones I made previously could also be used as a cookbook holder with a small caveat being if you were actually reading a recipe, I would find it difficult as the angle is all wrong - it depends if you’re just going for aesthetic over functionality. Although the concept of this DIY cookbook holder is quite simple, there are quite a few tools needed to execute it. You could probably get creative with a circular saw and a jigsaw or a multi-tool if needed but with the items below, I found it to be the cleanest way to get everything done.

For this DIY cookbook holder you need:
You need to make two pieces to make this cookbook holder:
- One 16”x8”x3/4” board
- Circular saw
- Table saw
- Jigsaw
- Table saw or router
- Orbital Sander
- Paint/spray paint
How to Make a DIY Cookbook Holder.
You need to make two pieces to make this cookbook holder:
- Piece 1: One 15” long, ¾” board with a 30-degree bevel cut on one end and a 90-degree cut on the other end. This board should be 11 ¾” wide.
- Take piece 1 and create a hole for piece 2 to fit into. The hole should be 2.5 inches from the bottom, ¾” wide, and 8 ¾” long.
- Piece 2: One 6 ¾” long, ¾” board with a 50-degree cut on one end and a 90-degree cut on the other end. This board should be 8 ¾” wide.
To Make Piece 1:
- Make a 30-degree bevel cut along the end of the board using your circular saw
- Measure 15” from your bevel cut and make a 90-degree cut at the end of the 15”
- Next, you’re going to trim the width of your 15” board to 11 ¾” wide
- Finally, measure a hole that is 8 3/4” long, 3/4” wide and 2 1/2” inches from either end – this is where piece 2 is going to slide into.
To Make Piece 2:
- Make a 50-degree bevel cut along the end of the remaining long-board
- Measure 6 ¾” from the bottom and make a 90-degree cut at the end of the 6 3/4”
- Next, trim the width of your 15” board to 8 3/4” wide
- Measure 5/8” from the end of the 90-degree cut. From here, you want to measure 1 1/4” and then run the table saw along your second piece to notch out a space for the cookbook to sit snugly in
Test out your cookbook holder and make sure piece 2 fits snugly into piece 1; make any adjustments necessary. Otherwise, sand, and then paint your cookbook holder. That’s it! A beautiful cookbook holder on display for all to see!
