Fall is FAST approaching. Like way too fast for me. The best I can do to embrace it right now is up my cocktail game. Sounds reasonable right?! I’m starting off my new fall cocktail series (JK it’s not a series) with this smoked bourbon sour.

My smoked bourbon sour will make you happy. Now, before you get all judgy from reading the ingredients that include egg whites, know that egg whites make a bourbon sour. Without the perfect frothiness of egg whites, you don’t have a bourbon sour. So no egg whites for you? Then you might need to find yourself another recipe because let me tell you, that froth makes or breaks this smoked bourbon sour.

You’re also probably sitting here thinking “wouldn’t the smoke make or break this bourbon sour?” Well, to be honest, it makes it really delicious, but not as delicious as the egg whites. AND to smoke it, I need my husband’s handy-dandy smoking cloche which I realize not everyone will have.

If you’re interested in the smoking cloche, it’s here. We really love it for cocktails. We even made a smoked tequila mule with it recently which was delicious. You can also smoke meats and cheeses. If you’re a fan of smoked, you’ll be a fan of this cloche. I would also recommend a blow torch to go with it.

If you don’t have a smoking cloche, I’ve given you an option below for how to tackle this. OR, you can go a-la traditional bourbon sour. Which is there is zero wrong with because it still comes with all of the deliciousness.

A smoked whiskey sour in a glass sitting on a wood board. There is a foamy egg white top with bitters topping it off.

Smoked Bourbon Sour

Makes one cocktail

Ingredients

+ ice
+ 2 oz Bourbon
+ 1.5 oz lemon juice
+ 0.5 oz maple syrup
+ 1 egg white
+ 2 drops of bitters

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, add your bourbon, lemon juice, maple syrup, and egg white. Shake well for 20 seconds.
  2. Add ice to the shaker. Shake again for 10 seconds.
  3. Pour into a pretty cocktail glass (without the ice) and top with two drops of bitter.
  4. Get your smoker out and smoke your cocktail! If you don’t have a smoker, use a spoon to add a tiny float of a peaty scotch (like a Lagavulin or a Laphroaig) on top of your cocktail.
