he smell of my home is one of the most important parts to me. It could look good, be nice and clean and tidy. But if there's a stinky smell in the fridge or garbage that's taking over it does not matter what the house looks like. Regardless if there are extra weird smells in the house (ideally not!), I always like to have a scent going: a candle, diffuser, or my latest favourite, a simmer pot.

The best part about simmer pots is that you can choose your scents based on your personal preference or based on what is in the fridge. Options range from fruit, spices, extracts, fresh herbs – anything fragrant. My go-to recipe is below but tends to include a lovely mixture of fruits and herbs.
By the way, I would also say a simmer pot makes an excellent gift – if you’re headed for dinner at a friend’s house; bring a simmer pot; toss some cinnamon sticks, cloves, dried oranges, and rosemary into the pot. Add a ribbon and boom! The sweetest host/hostess gift. I would personally also pick this gift out if I was playing a round of Secret Santa.
Simmer Recipe
Enough about what they do and why I love them so much, let’s get into my favourite simmer mixture:
1 apple, sliced
1 orange, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
5 whole cloves
A few sprigs rosemary
Water
Add your ingredients first, and then fill the pot with water. Place it on the stovetop on low, and let simmer for an hour or the day; just make sure you don’t run out of water. Your house will smell so delicious! You can thank me later! Happy simmering.
