his year, I'm all about harnessing your outdoor spaces and creating little oases. An outdoor oasis should seamlessly fit into your home and feel like you haven't gone from inside to outside or vice versa. Maintaining that cohesiveness is a challenge but one I was so excited to take on with Wayfair Canada's help behind me. The first thing I got to work doing was debating what area to tackle - there was one deciding factor that helped me pick the front porch.
Making the Front Porch Into an Outdoor Oasis
For five years McGregor and I have been lusting after the idea of having a porch swing. The plan has been to build one that would fit perfectly between the column and the front window and still match our aesthetic. Since it has not been a priority item, we can all say thank goodness I stumbled across this perfect porch swing while perusing Wayfair’s website. The dimensions were identical to what I would have built, and the price of the Gracie Oaks Lampe 2-Person Solid Wood Porch Swing , could not be beat even through a DIY. After reading all of the 227 wildly complimentary reviews that amounted to a 4.7-star rating, I quickly realized that it truly was the most perfect swing ; it needed to be the foundation of our outdoor oasis.
Creating This Oasis: Embracing the Outdoors
Outdoor Oasis: It’s All in the Details
The plants and planters added so much, but any space needs the finer details to make it pop. Not to mention, the finer details are even more critical if you’re creating an outdoor oasis. First, I added a grounding rug – we might be embracing the outdoors, but we still love a cozy outdoor oasis. A plain jute rug was perfect for under the swing. I opted for no cushion on the swing, but I did add not one pillow but two pillows and a blanket for that extra snug feeling. Finally, we cannot forget a place for your morning tea/coffee or evening glass of vino. This is where my favourite indoor/outdoor concrete side table comes into play. The perfect (almost) final addition.
The Finishing Touches for the Front Porch
The porch swing corner has transformed into the most comfortable outdoor oasis. However, the front door wasn’t feeling so inviting. So I added an oversized entryway rug, another one of my favourite self-watering planters and, to switch things up, a hanging planter for the door with some greenery in it!
I cannot tell you how much time we spent out here now that it’s been given some TLC. I couldn’t believe the fantastic selection we had to choose from at Wayfair, and even better, the speed at which the items arrived. I had my husband power washing sooner than he wanted (ha!) so I could get this space looking fantastic. Thanks, Wayfair for having everything we needed for our outdoor oasis and helping me ace the assignment!
