f you're like me, skin care is typically over your head. You do the bare minimum to maintain what you can. You think you're crushing it with that youthful skin, and suddenly... BAM - mid-30s smack you right in that aging face! You suddenly have less elasticity, more fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots - all the things you never thought you'd worry about. Truth be told, getting older is fun. But I don't think looking like I'm getting older is - so let's fix that! I'm tackling my aging skin head-on - with a simple part of your skincare routine that makes all the difference: red light therapy. While I do it, I may as well give you a full review of the Omnilux Contour Face LED Red Light Therapy Mask - from someone who bought it with their own money and wanted to see if it would make a difference.
What is Red Light Therapy and Why Should I Care?
Red light therapy piqued my interest – skincare gurus were going off about the many benefits, including reducing fine lines and wrinkles, promoting elasticity in the skin, collagen production, and all the buzzwords. The problem is that eight billion LED red light therapy masks exist. How on earth does someone pick one?! The prices range widely, and the reviews are all over the map. Eventually, I buckled down, did a ton of research, and pulled the trigger on a red light mask: The Omnilux LED red light therapy mask. If I’m being honest, the marketing got me. I didn’t have clear answers on any of the products I researched, but Omnilux has done an excellent job with their online presence; I also appreciated how many dermatologists recommended the Omnilux LED red light therapy mask. They are the experts, so I should follow their recommendation.
I was nervous about my investment since the Omnilux Contour Face LED red light therapy mask is in the mid-market range, coming in at around $530 CAD. That’s a lot of money if it doesn’t do anything. Could I have spent $100 on a less expensive version?! Probably. But I really wanted results – apparently, this mask is how you got them!
The Results of the Omnilux Contour LED Face Mask
I was wildly curious as to what the results would be. I knew I needed to track my progress with the Omnilux Contour mask as part of this review. Also, I look at my face in the mirror daily, and there’s a zero percent chance I would notice if I didn’t have side-by-side comparisons. Plus, would anyone believe me if there were any changes without proof? Maybe, but for the sake of this review, we aren’t risking it!
We start with a baseline photo – we need to know what we’re working with. Then we progress through going left to right. Baseline, 1 week of use, 2 weeks of use, and 3 weeks of use. I used it every two days for those three weeks, and the results are pretty incredible. Fine lines and wrinkles are absolutely reduced – look at my forehead! There’s also a difference around my mouth. My skin does look younger. We are waiting for a top laser-wielding dermatologist recommendation for those sun spots, so we will ignore those, okay? Lately, my skin has not been loving the change of season and has had some redness throughout – this mask has been reducing that redness with its eyes closed.
How to Use the Omnilux Contour
I also have a new review parameter: can I use it without reading directions. In summary, the Omnilux Contour is ADHD-friendly. I read exactly none of the directions and figured out everything (or so I think!). It charges using a USB-C cable. You put the mask on your face. When you’re ready to use it, you hold down the remote’s only button; then, like magic, the red light turns on. This was a risk I took without reading the directions – but it does shut off after 10 minutes!
The Cons of the Omnilux Contour
The cons of the Omnilux Contour mask include the brightness of the red light. I can still function – write emails, be on my phone, read a book, etc. with the mask on, but my very dramatic husband does not like how bright the light is. Needless to say, he cannot function while using the mask. Quick sidebar – once I showed him the progress shots on my face, he decided to use the mask with me. And that’s why we took those photos! Another con is that I never pay attention to when the battery is about to run out. On several occasions, I’ve gone to use the mask, and the battery has been dead. Which is my own doing.
We will rate it pretty high since we will not fault the Omnilux Contour mask for a battery mishap. It does exactly what it says it does; it’s small and compact and brings back that youthful glow you start losing in your mid-30s. The verdict: you need one; it works!
