xcuse me while I grab the tissue box; my second baby is ONE. In my experience, a second baby's birthday hits a little differently. I am not in a rush for her to grow up, hit her next milestone, and all the things I was rushing with my first. Everything I wished to happen sooner with my first came quickly enough. I am working on enjoying the phases we are in. But look at where we are now. In the blink of an eye, my second and last baby is one. We were so lucky to celebrate with family (albeit at the worst rental home we've ever stayed in, but that's a story for another time), including Sawyer's great-great-grandmother! Insane right?! Although that memory in and of itself will be one we remember forever, we know I have a massive obsession with throwing memorable, over-the-top birthday parties and being out of town wasn't going to stop me. I picked the theme based on Sawyer's greatest obsession: dogs.
Planning a Dog-Themed Birthday
For each of my parties, I always go for a backdrop of sorts, with balloons, cups, plates, and napkins. I also have a little magic touch to go with each party – this time, it was a dog house. We cut one out of cardboard and covered it in the confetti that came with one of the decor kits I purchased for this party.
Now, I won’t lie; you have to dig deep down an Amazon hole to find the good stuff – but it’s fine, I’ve linked it all for you.
The Food at a Dog-Themed First Birthday
Perhaps a rarity, but this first birthday’s guestlist was mostly adults – except my two children. I opted for a charcuterie board, as I always do. My oldest daughter is obsessed, and soon, my youngest will be too – she basically has no say in the matter. You could do a charcuterie board for the children and one for the adults. Make the children’s one age-appropriate (MumMum crackers, fruit cut nice and small, etc.)!
Trust me, charcuterie boards are always a hit, and you don’t need to think too hard about anything.
I also went for a dog-themed smash cake and cupcakes because… well, obviously.
Throwing a Party in a Rental
I also needed some height variation on the table – we wrapped bowls in tissue paper to hide their hideousness. It made the bowls a little more festive and cute!
Finally, always grab some paper plates, napkins, and cups. Then you know your bases are covered.
So, while I’m still in disbelief that my baby is one, I pulled together a pretty cute party for her! *pats self on the back*
S ome parties are cute, others are fun, and then there are the ones where your six-year-old walks in
I 'll go ahead and start this off on the right foot – I need to call myself out. Epic bir
